Hurricanes Blow

Whellp, I'm back. I took an unintented vacation thanks to hurricane Irene. Thankfully, all we had to endure was 4 days without power. Other than that, no injuries or property damage.

As inconvenient as I felt it was, I think my cat Creep took it the hardest. Cats don't take change very well. He seems glad to be able to sleep in front of my box fan again.

I have a lot of catching up to do this week. I am behind on my obligated arts, my personal arts, and mah school learnin'.

Aside from sarcastically thanking hurricane Irene for giving me a tour of the Amish life for 4 days, I must also sincerely thank "her" for a few ideas I had over that period. One of them is just silly, and the other is silly and quite dark. I have added them to the list of things I will get to when hell freezes over.

In this week's post, I have two more title cards for Gomer's "Play It to the Back Row" series. I intended to finish and post both of these last week, but that didn't happen, now, did it? Raah! These are for his upcoming reviews of "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" and "Monty Python and the Holy Grail". In my next blog post I'll have a card for "Arsenic and Old Lace", and hopefully I'll finish up my gentleman crows.

I chat in IRC quite a bit, and let me just say, I would be hard pressed to not be inspired on almost a nightly basis by the people I talk to regularly.

Have you ever had a debate over the practicality of Jedi narwhals with lightsaber tusks? I have.

Today's drawing was inspired by a conversation between two friends. I'll let your imagination take it from there.

Late Update

This post comes much later than I originally wanted it to be. I planned to have more to bring you this week, but one of the pieces is not quite finished yet. I want it to be just right. Hopefully I will get it done by Monday.

For now, though, I have a new title card for Play it to the Back Row. It is for a review of Shrek. As promised last week, I'll post not only the completed work, but the work that went on behind it as well.

I hope you enjoy it, and look out for another post in a few days. I hope to be posting more frequently.

Evolution of Artings

Hello, my lovelies.

Since we last met, the 4th of July came and went. I hope your 4th was filled with friends, family, assorted grilled meats, and pretty skysplosions. Mine was filled with a Twilight Zone marathon and tasty goodies from the grill. A fine way to celebrate America's independence.

This week I made a decision to start showing the process of my arts from beginning to end. It's not something I usually do, not really out of protecting my (not so) awesome techniques, but more out of the negative idea that nobody cares about the process. I recently realized that's really not true. I love when other artists showcase the stages of their work, and plenty of other people appreciate it as well.

In the same vein, I've been mulling over the idea of making videos where I capture the entire process and speed it up. I don't quite have the proper setup right now, but it may happen in the future.

This week, I have for you a couple things. I am the current title card artist for Gomer the Ranting Thespian, and I made a new card for his "Play it to the Back Row" series. I have also done a sheet of faces. Only two are random original characters, and the rest are my cartoony interpretations of real people.

That pretty much concludes my entry for this week. I am working on a couple of fun pieces for next week, so watch out for that.

The First Step

FIRE!

Now that I've got your attention, please allow me to welcome you to my art blog: Welcome! My name is Lucien G. Boutin, and I am a budding graphic artist. There are several things I wish to achieve with this blog, and I will convey them all to you in this fledgling post.

I will start with a bit about myself and why I am starting an art blog.

"Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt." - William Shakespeare.

Yes, I yelled "FIRE!", then quoted Shakespeare.

For a long time I had questioned whether or not I should embrace my only natural talent: Drawing. I went down several alternate avenues looking for something else, all the while being trailed by a nagging cartoon thought bubble. As time passed, the thought bubble grew larger.

It was my conscious telling me that I had already found what I was looking for, but fear was keeping me from acknowledging it. Thought bubbles are hard to ignore when they're textually yelling at you in bold all caps.

I am casting away my fears and moving forward. The road ahead is uncertain, but doubt won't keep me from taking the first step. That first step is this post.

The purpose of this blog is to share my scribblings, and myself, with you. My hope is that you will enjoy what I have to offer.

I am looking to grow as an artist, and as a person. I both welcome and encourage comments and suggestions.

I enjoy collaborating with other creative folks, so if you would like to work with me, I am all for it.

My style is generally cartoonish, cute, and sometimes funny. This is not my limit, though. I can be quite versatile.
